The Charing Cross Lions

Bendigo Weekly | Bendigo Weekly | 25-Sep-2015

Four Lions is a new band out of Bendigo, which aims to convey honest heartfelt lyrics with almost familiar melodies.

Fronted by singer-songwriter Shann Lions on harp and guitar, Keith “Lightning” Macqueen on guitar, Greg Perry on bass and Jordan Allen on drums, the band describes themselves as a combination of roots, rock, folk and alternative country.

Their debut album Charing Cross will be released September 30 on Bendigo independent label Verse Chorus Verse.

Lions said the band wants to convey pride in its community, something he feels Australian artists are not typically “good at”.

“Writing from the heart, that’s what people connect with,” he said.

“I want people to connect with the song but with Bendigo as well.”

In a nod to the band’s pride in Bendigo, the album cover features an image by Allan Doney, a former well known Bendigo identity and passionate photographer.

Doney catalogued his community and surrounds in post-war images.

A launch for the album will be held October 24 at the Queens Arms Hotel, 25 Russell Street, Bendigo.
